Businesses has most potential to use the benefit of solar energy. This is due to the fact that highest band tarrif is charged for business users. Therefore, payback is shortest for business users. Businesses such as resorts, guesthouses and cafes and shops can take advantage of this benefit.
Similar to business users, residential users can also take advantage of the net metering regulation and save on electricity. However, due to lower tarrif imposed by the grid owners, the payback period is longer than the business energy users.
Customers can also benefit by producing the energy and selling the energy to the end-users. This can be a lucrative investment. There are several such energy projects in Maldives. These are mainly under power purchasing agreements.
Javaahirumaage Solar Project is a 30 kWp Solar project, commissioned in August 2015. The Solar project was installed at a house. The system is still fully functional and generating and exporting energy. This is a commercial project.
Our first every vessel solar project (Dhoani solar project) was installed at Haisham Dhoani and the system is powering the lighting and small needs of the vessel as of early 2019 as well without any issues. We have carried out few vessel solar projects in the past. We intend to expand this segment further during 2020.
